One of the prominent events of our season will be the guest performance of the Northern
Theatre with their successful performance Rasputin directed by Sardar Tagirovsky on 6-8th
October.
The play is about a very peculiar Rasputin with visionary abilities who is trying desperately to stop
the outbreak of the Great War. He is seeking the help of the then leaders of Europe, like Tsar
Michael II., Emperor Wilhelm II., the Archduke of Franz Ferdinand, the British king George Vth.
but none listen to him or taking his visions seriously.
Around the time of the premiere the theme of the play was accentuated by the approaching Trianon
anniversary, however it became even more relevant with the brutal war in our neighbouring
Ukraine, that according to the director many visionary „Rasputins” were unable to stop from the
outbreak as the world’s greater rulers made their decisions according to other views.
Some are sent to the front line at this very moment, some are thrown into mass graves and others
forced to run away, thus in this manner the strong warning of “Never shall we let it repeat again!”
becomes even more important. This is what Rasputin does through the means of theatre.
