Two of our performances have been invited to the 32nd edition of the National Theatre Festival in Bucharest: Good Kid’s Picture Book, directed by Máté Hegymegi and Love and other Crimes, directed by Theodor-Cristian Popescu, the latter can be seen on 3rd of November at home as well, for the last time this year.
Under the hopeless circumstances of the Belgradian underworld, Anica is longing for a new life. But before she seizes the moment in order to change her own fate and leave the concrete-desert of the Serbian capital, she decides to bring every story from her past to an end. The performance Love and other Crimes tells the story of one unique day with a bit of irony, absurdity and romance. It gives a glimpse of the Easter-European reality and the everyday life of the late ’90s in the post-communist Belgrade.
Director Theodor-Cristian Popescu due to the limited possibilities of the stage concentrated on the inner conflicts of the characters. In his opinion pictures have an important role but carry a different emphasis than the pictures of the movie and also the actors have searched tones that are not all theatrical so the performance is definitely the outcome of an experimental work process.
We usually long for more than we can achieve, the will is stronger than the possibilities, but the deeper we go in understanding the reasons of our own unhappiness, the more uncomprehensive our soul gets. Are we really in control of our lives? Or our desires? Do we have the power to change things that are painful to us? Is pushing the envelope or accepting our fate that make us happier?
