Rehearsals for Lev Birinskij’s Dance of Fools have begun

Under the direction of Marcel Bélai, rehearsals for our latest production began on the 5th January, with the premiere scheduled for the 23rd February.

Birinskij’s political and social pamphlet is full of unexpected twists and turns, with the director identifying Interest and Futility as the main themes of the play. A world driven by interests sooner or later becomes unbearable, burns itself out, and once a force of gravity is set in motion, it will continue regardless of how hard we try to resist it, he said. “How is it that as soon as we try to put into practice the grand ideas related to our own lives or social injustices, they immediately fall on their own sword?” asked the director, then, quoting Kosztolányi, explained that human nature and ideas are in fact contradictory. “No idea should be realized or executed, because then it’s over.
