Tibor Pálffy Receives the UNITER Award

After multiple nominations by the Romanian Theatre Association—for “Yvonne, Princess of Burgundy” (2009), “Hamlet” (2014), “The Tempest” (2025) – Tibor Pálffy, an artist at the Tamási Áron Theatre in Sfântu Gheorghe, has won the UNITER Award this year for his portrayal of Jean in our production “Rhinoceros”, created in collaboration with the Figura Studio Theatre in Gheorgheni.

Upon receiving the award, Tibor Pálffy emphasized that this recognition is particularly meaningful to him because it was awarded for a production staged jointly by two theatres close to his heart, under the direction of László Bocsárdi, under whose guidance he himself began his acting career in Gheorgheni thirty-six years ago.

With Kinga Boros and Gábor Tompa, there were two more Hungarian award recipients at this year’s UNITER Gala, and Radu Afrim, one of our theatre’s regular guest directors, also received an award. Kinga Boros, an associate professor at the University of Arts in Târgu Mureș, received the George Banu Award for Best Critic “for her critical work on Transylvanian theatre from a multicultural perspective.”

The nomination committee for the 34th UNITER Awards Gala consisted of theatre critics Oana Borș, Mihai Brezeanu, and Iulia Popovici, who evaluated productions staged between 1st January and 31st December, 2025. The jury that selected the winners from among the nominees consisted of set designer Cosmin Florea, actor Iulian Postelnicu, theatre director Bobi Pricop, theatre critic Miruna Runcan, and actress Andrea Tokai.
