Premiere of Brecht’s In the Jungle of Cities

Bertolt Brecht’s In the Jungle of Cities directed by Dorka Porogi will be premiered on the 26th February 2017.

Dorka Porogi’s first direction at the Tamási Áron Theatre – Pintér Béla: Kaisers TV, Ungarn. – has been on the repertoire for three years. The director’s choice this time is a more compact, more poetic text that together with the unusual association of ideas and pictures trigger firstly the receiver’s senses.

Brecht is one of the greatest German dramatists. Published in 1923, In the Jungle of Cities is an unconventional, provocative, hip, diverse and new creation. The two main characters are George Garga (Bence Kónya-Ütő), a young man and Shlink (Tibor Pálffy), a Malaysian lumber dealer. Their unprecedented, obsessive war against each other threaten both familial and economic situation, as well as the individual and the capitalist power.

“If you were to load a ship full to bursting with human bodies, that ship would be so full of loneliness all those bodies would freeze.” – wrote Brecht. This gruesomely contemporary play uses expressionist tools to question the fate of women, the situation of the immigrants, the conflicts between generations, domestic problems and the disintegration of a whole society.

Following the premiere, the performance can be seen on the 28th February, on the 3rd and 18th March. Tickets can be purchased at the box office or at www.biletmaster.ro
