Bence Kónya-Ütő receives the Theatre Critics’ Award

On 15th September, the Theatre Critics’ Guild held its annual awards gala, at which Bence Kónya-Ütő won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role as Caliban in Viktor Bodó’s production of The Tempest.

The Hungarian Theatre Critics’ Guild presented the Theatre Critics’ Award for the 46th time this year, recognizing outstanding theatrical performances from the 2024/2025 season. A total of 18 independent, permanent and touring theatre productions and artists were nominated in 14 categories. The Tempest, one of our most successful productions of the past season, received nominations in four categories for the Theatre Critics’ Awards: Best Permanent Theatre Production, Best Lead Actor (Tibor Pálffy), Best Supporting Actress (Janka Korodi) and Best Supporting Actor (Bence Kónya-Ütő).

Full votes could be cast by members of the guild who had seen at least 90 Hungarian theatre performances during the season, but since the 2017/2018 season, those who have seen fewer than 90 but at least 50 new performances have also been eligible to vote. They can also cast three votes per category, but their votes count for half the points. As is tradition, the ballots and accompanying explanations and justifications will be made public after the ceremony on the website of the Guild of Theatre Critics.

Dear Bence, congratulations on this prestigious award!
