The Threepenny Opera at the Szeged Open-Air Festival

We will present Bertolt Brecht’s The Threepenny Opera in co-production with the Szeged Open-Air Festival on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of August at Szeged Open-Air Festival.

Brecht’s expressionist play with its amoral heroes and dark romanticism presents the power of wealth in Victorian England. We see a world of betrayal as part of the daily routine, where actions don’t have consequences and the betrayed seeks comfort on the shoulder of the traitor.

“Brecht believed that theatre should be a place where an audience could critically approach problems, look for solutions, and act upon their decisions. He believed that audience members should have a sense of social responsibility and also a sense of fun.” (Richard Pilgrim)

The Threepenny Opera directed by László Bocsárdi is considered our most extensive production of recent years. During the following season the performance is going to be included in the repertoire of the Tamási Áron Theatre.
