The Barbarians

Zsigmond Móricz used a true story when writing his short story entitled The Barbarians. The robbery with murder happened in the Hungarian city of Kecskemét in the 19th century.

„In March, 1867 two dead bodies were discovered in the sand dunes of Szarkás. The bodies were of outlaws: Péter Bodri and his son. They disappeared two years before, on Saint George’s Day together with their dogs, 185 sheep, 115 lambs and 3 donkeys. Bodri’s neck was tied with a rope, while his son’s head was crashed. Kecskemét city launched an investigation, but the culprits are still unknown.
