The Bourgeoise Gentleman
The Bourgeoise Gentleman was written at the request of Louis XIV. and it is a typical baroque play in which the emphasis is on the dialogue between actors and audience. The milieu described by the author and the present society have many common features: the chaos, the expectations and the instincts, and the problemacy of loneliness. Moliére is speaking about the lack of a ritual that is so relevant in our present day society, namely how populism and the tabloids push aside the values, make honest relationships almost impossible.
